The Kendal string quartet is a young but experienced string quartet that specialises in providing high quality background live music to bring that special atmosphere to weddings, corporate events, society gatherings or entertainment for any occasion.
They came together in
1994 when they were students at the Royal Academy of Music regularly giving
concerts and taking part in competitions and master classes. Since graduating
they have all embarked on busy careers as professional musicians and have
played with some of the leading orchestras in the world, including the London
Symphony Orchestra, The Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, the Orchestra of
the Royal Opera House and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
As a string quartet,
their repertoire is all encompassing and ranges from well-known classical
masterpieces to jazz standards, show tunes and arrangements of popular songs.
Often a client will ask them to play a piece which has a particular sentimental
or emotional significance for them, and sometimes even music from a television
advertisement. They do their own arrangements, so any request can be met.
They enjoy making
music together. This, combined with their vitality and professionalism, is the
key to helping you and your guests get the most from - and enjoy to the full --
your special event.
four members of the string quartet are Tom Elliott and Matthew Truscott -
violins, Samantha Miller - viola, and Sarah McMahon - cello.
Their great potential
was clear early on in their time at music college and under the guidance of
such eminent musicians as members of the Amadeus, Brodsky and Endellion string
quartets they formed their own exciting style, performing to audiences across
the UK, Ireland and the continent.
During their time at the Academy, they also began to
play at functions and parties, providing a background to the occasion and
giving them an opportunity to do what they loved most, playing together. They
began to play for some prestigious companies in London including Virgin
Atlantic, in their First Class Lounge at Heathrow and we made regular
appearances for Burberrys and Austin Reed in their Regent Street stores. Over
the years we have played in most of the leading hotels in London and beyond
including the Hyde Park Hotel, the Savoy, the Dorchester and the Goring.
