A unique and dedicated artist, known and loved for his passionate, gifted way of communicating with the public. He plays the Modelo Corvado 42 string harp; the cuatro, a Colombian -Venezuelan folk instrument, and also, as an accompaniment, he plays Spanish guitar. As a poet Ricardo is artistically known as El Condor . He is one of Colombia’s leading poet performer and winner of three international poetry awards in his homeland. His work has been published in Colombia, Venezuela and England, and has been recorded by different record companies, including CBS.
Creativity and
further achievements: Ricardo has lived in England since 1979. He studied voice production, Spanish Literature and English in London, where he published work in both Spanish and English, in the ‘Anthology of Latin American Poets in London’ (1988) and earned his artistic name, El Condor. He formed the group MATIZ (1987). He has represented Latin America both as Soloist, and as leader of MATIZ throughout the UK in different musical events, including the Edinburgh International Festival, Cardiff World Harp Festival, and Pontardawe Festival. He has given performances in a wide range of halls, theatres and different educational institutions. He recorded live performances for BBC Radio and TV, and Satellite BSB TV. Many compliments have been written about his performances: one of his concert in Wales was described by Valleys Roots as: “A night of powerful, breathtaking and simply spectacular music from this master player of the Latin American harp.” Ricardo has recorded two albums of his own compositions, and has contributed to many others. The last album, ” the Orinoco Dolphin ” was released in England 1998. It has been by reviewed the world music magazine Folk Root as :”a record marked by its creative ideas and sensitive poetry. There is a true sense of texture of Latin America here, of hinterlands marked by hopes and dreams as well as emotional experiences...” Ricardo has given several benefit performances. His last concert Grano de Arena, Grain of Sand, in aid of Children of the Andes, in September last year at St James’s Church, Piccadilly London, raised over £2,000 for the Charity.
